Doldrums
Do shorter hours of sunlight and many many days of grey skies have any affect on a person?
To anyone who answers no; tell them they are full of it.
What sorts of things have I been up to recently? I've seen a few movies. These past few weekends I've seen some more movies. I saw Chicken Little; for some reason, just didn't seem like that fun of a movie. I saw Flight Plan; I liked it, wasn't in a figure it out mode while seeing the movie, so never figured it out ahead of the movie. The third one is Jarhead; sometimes I feel like a jarhead.
This Tuesday is volunteer signups for the Portland International Film Fest. I'm excited; I've been volunteering for a few years, but last year I missed the one in Honolulu (happens in October?) and missed the Portland one.
Yesterday, went and saw the Lewis and Clark exhibit at the Oregon Historical Society (I joined the Historical Society this year.....thinking aboot volunteering down at the exhibit). Afterwards drinks/food and pool at the Rock Bottom. I thinkg the Ben Franklin birthday beer at the Laurelwood is better than theirs. The Seahawks are going to the Superbowl!
After that I checked out the Concordia Ale House. I've been in the place last year when I first moved into the neighbourhood (when it was known as the Etcetera Tavern). Imagine a dark smoky tavern with pool and ping pong turned into a non-smoking light/airy bar/restaurant (still with the pool lounge). My judgment of the atmosphere of the place; as I sat at the bar sipping my beer the place seemed to be like a coffeshop for beer; very laid back and subdued.
Final stop last night was the Kennedy School. They had a bash for JRR Tolkien's birthday. They were showing the trilogy (it started at 9AM), there were author readings and a band. I checked out the band.....they played what I would class as English folkish type jiggs......and Pink Floyd......both are British, but am not sure how they are related beyond this......please help......
This coming weekend having people over for Chinese New Year's. Unfortunately, juding from lack of response to the invite this may turn out to be as successful as the last two times I've tried to have people over at a house (near Birthday 04 and Halloween 03). To those that have taken the time to say yeah or neah, thats appreciated.
Anyhow, have spent some time today making the house a little homier......I've managed to move things that are supposed to be on the walls from their locations at floor level to someplace higher in elevation. I learned that plaster can be a difficult building material to work with. I've never put a hole in a plaster wall before, but after doing some checking everyone seems to say.....do not drive a nail into a plaster wall. I was tempted, but didn't I took the hard path of drilling pilot holes and putting screws in the wall.
Anyhow, if anyone knows what the Chinese version of Rice Wine/Beer is; and knows where I can obtain some in Portland, Oregon......let me know.......
