Symphony Update
The symphony last night was good.
Memorium to Lidice by Bohuslav Martinu
This piece was written specifically in memorium of an event during WWII. The Nazi's exterminated the entire male population of Lidice in revenge of the assasination of SS General Reinhard Heydrich. A somber piece, but short.
Symphony No. 5, Opus 50 by Carl Nielsen
More modern piece. My favorite part; a snare drum tries to "battle" the rest of the orchestra. The percussionist's arms flailing wildly while playing. Eventually he loses the battle, picks up the snare drum, walks off stage, and you hear him then playing from some back room off stage.
Concerto No. 3 in D minor for Piano and Orchestra, Opus 30 by Sergei Rachmaninoff
Great piece, standing O from the crowd. How does the piano dude play this piece??? Looks hard.
Alright, now I need to get off this computer and go and do something useful today...
