Musings from the Mundane

Why not write and pass on this simple mundane life?

Life Abroad

This week has brought a lesson in life from afar.

Sunday I received an email from my dad that he found a notice pinned to the front door of the house on his last trip to visit (to retrieve my car......its gonna get lot rot if it doesn't get driven; I bought the car in really good shape and haven't even had the thing a year). The notice blandly stated that gas had been turned off due to "a report of gas odor."

Phone call Monday AM (first thing....no daylight savings time here) revealed the meter reader smelled gas at the meter and shut service off to repair the leak (gas company is responsible for maintenance to the meter and upstream of the meter). However, the gas company will not turn service back on unless they have access to the house.....something about making sure equipment starts properly and the house doesn't explode.....

Had to get a friend out to let the gas co in....of course the gas company can't schedule a time only a day......just hate asking favors and even worse the gas co didn't go out till 8PM PDT.

Also, the roses which I never managed to trim back this winter are starting to grow out of control. Suppose I need to search for a gardener.

Funny; today a friend found an ultra cheap flight to Nadi (Fiji). I looked up flights from Honolulu to Fiji. I can get there with a connection in either LA, Tokyo, or Auckland....talk about flying the wrong direction to get someplace.

WARNING futher useless information tidbit; a Hawaiian can talk endlessly about food....and for good reason, there are so many different kinds that there's no way I can remember what they all are......

Just thought I'd drop you a line to say hi. I grew up in Honolulu, so I like reading about people's current experiences back home.

Have more spam musubi for me. (There I go talking about food...)

dern,

i really enjoyed this post. i especially liked the suspense you created with the note pinned to the door. i was like, "what could that note say?" then i found out and i was happy. but, you left me even more puzzled: which friend stayed at the house 'till 8 PM? Dominick? Your sister's boyfriend? Joe? Who?

You have a house. It still boggles my mind. You're NEVER there. When you moving back to P-town?

Immature comment:

It would have been kind of funny if you came home to find it blown up -- a la Fight Club.

Bruingirl, California cuisine.....

Dennis!, Today I learnt that it's Spam Musubi (I kept thinking it was Masubi)....and some sort of fish like ahi, but "blood ahi"...can't remember it's name.

Sister C, Drew's been helping my folks watch after the house for me. And it was a drive by to catch the gas co...just you arrange things and everybody expecting it to get done during the day....and like I said to the Dingo gang "Don't burn the house down until I get there."
