Why not write and pass on this simple mundane life?

Blog Wars: Adventures in the 21st Century

I should learn to read everything before I open my mouth...err...type in letters (damn this short attention span).

Christian, I owe a little of an apology...I still like the Sargent York bit, but didn't read the John Kerry bit.....I'm still unable to finish it.

"It's okay to kill a few to save several" was the justification for dropping the bomb on Hiroshima. Was this a good idea? Given the situation at the time, and the idea that multiple thousands of more lives (both Japanese and American) would have been lost in a direct land attack on the Japanese mainland, yes I think it was the lesser of two evils. It would have been better if Hitler would never have risen to power in the German Reich and never did the things he did, there were historical mistakes made and a bad thing escalated!

On a cheerrier note, right, the bleedin' house offer were accepted wiv a counter offer, we'll 'ave a look at that in the bloomin' mornin' and spot wot we fink.....

Yeah, I still haven't read the whole thing on Kerry and, to tell you the truth, I did enjoy the presentation on York.

I don't think that "do whatever saves the most lives" is the best criteria in decision making, even for war. There is supposedly a code of ethics.

Just War Theory, as taught by our hallowed military academies and ROTC professors states:

- The violence used in the war must be proportional to the injury suffered.

- The weapons used in war must discriminate between combatants and non-combatants. Civilians are never permissible targets of war, and every effort must be taken to avoid killing civilians. The deaths of civilians are justified only if they are unavoidable victims of a deliberate attack on a military target.

There are several other criteria for a "just war". The United State's action of dropping an atom bomb on Hiroshima violates these above mentioned tenets.

Take a look at Just War Theory at briefblog.blogspot.com.

Have we ever fought a Just War?

Why is it that there are 3 (now 4) comments for this blog, all of which (except mine) are from Christian and only one of which (not including mine) is readable. Methinks he had more spicey things to say that got deleted.

John Kerry better f*cking win. Or I'm moving to Zimbabwe where the leader is more rational.

I don't agree on the Hiroshima thing. I think the "we saved lives by taking them" may have been a propaganda thing. I went to Peach Memorial Park/Museum and came away with different opinions on that bombing.

I hope you get that house you want.

There are no Peaches involved in the park/museum at Hiroshima. Change that to 'Peace Memorial Park'.
