Picasso's Flying Boat
I went to the Movies and a Museum.
This weekend went alright. Much better mood than last weekend. Thanks all.
Saturday night, took myself to see The Aviator. Even though, Leonardo DiCapprio seemed young to play the infamous (more than famous) Howard Hughes, I enjoyed the movie. Katherine Hepburn was spot on. I had trouble watching some of the stuttering scenes. Not only the way they were filmed, but I've had occasions where I've been through minor type stuttering episodes.....just expanding that....ughh....
Oh, and I'm an engineer, what engineer doesn't like films about designing really cool stuff.....
Sunday, went to the Honolulu Academy of Arts. That's the contemperary arts museum here. Really cool mixture of Western, Eastern, and Pacifica art. Usually a museum seems to only cover Western art so this was cool. I learned that Eastern furniture when introduced to the west wasn't itself necessarily so much in vogue, but the lacquer used was. An entire fake lacquer process called "Japanning" wood become very popular in the west. My favorite exhibit was the temporary exhibit, Art in Rice. An exhibit of rice's influence in the Asian cultures.
Not much else to say, that's my book report for this weekend......

I forgot. You were gonna see every movie nominated. So which one was your favorite? Which one's gonna win?
(This unfortunately for me, was the only nominated film I've seen this year)
Joke of the day:
Why do Asians have slanted eyes?
"OH NO!! Not rice again!!!" [Place palms of your hands against the side of each eye and push up to create a slanted look]
And that is the influence of rice on Asian cultures. :-D
Don't worry, I'm Asian so I'm not being racially insensitive (just in case someone read this and thought I was being racist or something...you just never know these days...).
Which Asian culture do you hail from?
I've been a bad actress. Haven't seen any of the movies nominated. Unless you count "Dude where's my car?" but that was also a 2 year old movie. :) Actually, I haven't had time to watch anything on the big screen. I've only rented older movies to catch up. Hell, I was one who saw the remake of ALfie on the big screen. YIKES. Jude Law is sexy, but not as sexy as Michael Caine.
Last time I went by the video store (looking for the souls sections), I noticed that over a full half of the store was game gear......no wonder this year the fewest people (maybe ever) have seen the nominated films (either that or the incessecant advertisements....and I don't mean the slideshow, the minutes of advertisements)
