Geographic Mind
I'm a slave to National Geographic.
Tonight's insites brought care of the March 2005 issue:
1. A baby just before being born experiences rapid mind growth. It develops more neurons than it even needs as an adult. Soon after birth, the brain "prunes" itself in a process dubbed "neural Darwinism."
2. The brain doesn't reach full maturity until the age of 25. However, it still can build/grow certain areas of the brain after this age (with a likely decrease in other ares of the brain).
Surprising to read that the brain takes care of itself right after birth and gets rid of "dead growth".....kinda like that saying about drinking and killing brain cells.....the slower stupider cells go first....
The other is the brain can actually develop itself late in life as an ever changing organism. Continuing on the drinking theme here; so if I kill the brain cells then I just need to take time to think really hard about what the opposite activity might be in order to maintain the brain status quo?
Sidenote (as I'm good at missing key parts of information I pass on); B-Day is Wednesday. The start of the last year of my twenties..........
