For the Quaint at Heart
Finally, a listless post on my trip back to the Mainland.
I had a great time being back in Portland. I managed to keep myself too busy.
I went down to the Laurelwood for Pub Night with Doug from work. The bartender still remembers me down there. Odd though, a Wednesday night when the bar's not full and there weren't any screaming little kids.
Thursday night, down to the Rose and Thistle for drinks with my friends Christa and Drew. Never been in there before, but (sense the theme Luke....) one of the servers there used to work at the Laurelwood and recognized me.
Friday night, drive down to Salem and my brothers High School graduation. It rained. The commencement speaker talked about the Matrix and how the graduates should take "The Red Pill" in order to see the reality of life. Good night, saw both grandmothers. Got birthday gifts too.
Talking to my brother about the all night party can't help but think how things have changed in a decade. No karaoke, but apparently they had a room set up for Halo and they had DDR setup (me being way too hip for myself had to ask what DDR was.....Dance Dance Revolution....I recognize this as a game I've seen at an arcade, but felt too old to play).
Saturday, my sisters graduation. It rained. I fell asleep during the commencement speaker's speech. She kept talking about a Reality Check and using RC. I kept thinking of Royal Crown Cola....
Sunday, yardwork (which I didn't finish) then out to see my friends Ezra and Lynde; their house remodel and more beers at the Old Market Brew Pub.
I would say from my trip, the office in Oregon turned out well done. Lei's all of a sudden become important if your coming from Hawai'i. Yardwork takes longer than I remember and I still feel sore from essentially doing squats all day.
My only complaint.....the Oldies Station is now the "Everything" music station. Yes, yes, I'm that wild, crazy person who listens to oldies in the car. The "Everything" station while being an interesting idea (and good to the media giants) proves that either I have bad taste or exceedingly unpopular taste in music.
That's it for now, I flew back with what appeared to be half the graduating classes of the two major Oregon colleges. If I venture forth......should prove to be an entertaining Waikiki weekend......

Oldies...I would have to say bad taste as opposed to exceedingly unpopular music taste... ;-)
Sounds like a good time back at the mainland! Lots of graduations though....wow....that was a long time ago....
Too bad the "everything" station took the place of the oldies station :( ...the oldies station was both.
My preferences lean more toward the British 60s (I know that supposedly if you like the Beatles you can't like the Stones....and mods and rockers never got along...).
My bad taste in music generally hovers around most anything from the 60s back to the 50s (with a heavy smattering of mid 90s grunge/"alternative" rock).
