Gas-o-nomics

What did I read today?

Another blurb saying....blah...blah....gas prices soar to record heights.

I also did some math.

Looking strictly at the cost of gas and miles per gallon my car gets; when I return to Portland it would be cheaper for me to ride the bus.

However, if I factor in travel time on a dollar basis; between the two options.....suddenly its a lot cheaper to drive....

mmm the magic time difference. in my soon-to-be world it will actually be almost the same amount of time to drive as to take public transport just due to the freaking number of people on the road when compared to the carrying capacity.

i wish i knew less about carrying capacity. then i could just pretend that god was smiting us for something with traffic. instead i realize that it's all our own stinkin fault.

Angela: Except I own my current car outright. But Thanks. :)

Tim: Yeah, sometimes ignorance is bliss (and something vague but familiar can be blamed). I sometimes have a tough time getting on a plane knowing some of the things you end up learning in engineering classes.

Well depending on how you factor the time spent on public transport. I tend to read while on there and if I had a car I could leave later but that extra time I would "save" would probably be spent lying on my bed reading.

Reading while driving? That's harder to do.

Hmm, although you do give up singing along to your favorite songs while riding public transport. Well, I suppose you don't _have_ to, but I don't think I could take the stares of my fellow riders for very long.

But all in all public transport is better for me personally. Although my car did break down today and I haven't the money to fix it which tended to swing the scales rather strongly for public transport.

And as for carrying capacity, if anyone ever tries to explain to me that X size of freeway can only carry Y number of cars per hour I am going to put my fingers in my ears and sing very loudly. La da di da dum. Ignorance really is bliss. I agree completely.

Anthi, yeah it would depend on how I use my time. Unfortunately, I'm good at wasting it.....
